Musée jean de la fontaine, château-thierry

This building, the birthplace and residence of the famous 17th-century writer Jean de la Fontaine, predated his birth by half a century or so, and is now a museum celebrating his life and work. The external stonework had suffered very badly in the damp conditions of the Picardy countryside, and almost all of the carved detail was completely lost. For Quélin S.A. I replaced ten Renaissance ‘Corinthian’ capitals on two sides of the building, made indent and mortar repairs to a further four, and replaced all other carved detail in its entirety (fourteen flat Ionic capitals, interlaced crescent moon motifs, and the lintel over the front door.
